Extract Text works on PDFs that already have selectable text. OCR is for scanned PDFs (images of documents) — it recognizes the characters in the image and gives you back a visually identical PDF with a searchable text layer.

Visually yes — the image of your page is preserved. The difference is an invisible text layer on top. You can use Ctrl+F, select, and copy text like any regular PDF.

Our OCR uses preprocessing (grayscale, normalization) to improve recognition. For best results, use scans at 200+ DPI with minimal skew.

No. OCR runs 100% on our servers using open-source Tesseract. No external API receives your files.
